About the author
In
1990, Alayne Sayles tutored Kelly, a second grader whose passion
in life was singing. Alayne was inspired to write reading
songs to help Kelly with her reading skills. The introduction
of songs and music to Kelly's tutoring sessions was magical.
Former grueling and difficult lessons, became productive and
enjoyable.
During the next ten years, as Director of The Gift of Literacy,
a JCC tutoring program in the public school system, Alayne
used her unique sing-along technique successfully with hundreds
of children. This ultimately led to the creation of Alphie
and the Alphabets.
Alayne has been a classroom teacher, a reading specialist
at the Star Learning Center in Manhattan, and lecturer for
the America Reads Challenge Program at Fordham University.
She has a Masters Degree in Education from Hunter College
where she did post graduate work in reading. She is state
certified in reading, and in elementary education. She is
Director of the Reading Studio in Manhattan. Alayne is an
ASCAP songwriter and has written songs for children of all
ages. She has a daughter and lives in New York City.
